The wooden mill sets have metal or wooden ball tops clearly marked with an 'S' or 'P'. The salt and pepper cork ball jars instead feature clear waterproof labels to help you identify the items. 

Yes. Unscrew the top of the mill, pour in whole peppercorns or dry coarse salt, and screw them back on. 

These items should ideally be cleaned by hand to keep the wood in good condition. If purchasing glass cork jars instead, whilst these are dishwasher safe, we would not recommend putting them in the dishwasher as the adhesive foil backing can come loose.
